Growing Noble Firs or known as Christmas trees is not just considered a means of livelihood in Ireland but also a tradition. Most of these trees are grown at least fourteen years before these are harvested and packaged to be delivered to stores selling fresh Christmas trees in time for the holiday season. Similar to any businesses that needs to thrive, the Christmas tree business also needs hands-on approach. This is regardless whether the weather is good or bad. As the tree farmers prepare for the demand, the consumers purchasing the trees must be able to also prepare for the season through traditions that has been set up for families depending on the penchant as they we all celebrate and welcome the season of blessing practiced all over the world.
Techniques in Propagating the Growth of Christmas Trees
Planting the
seeds in the nursery initially and letting them grow for two years before
transferring them to their final station to grow for another two years. Then
letting these grown further for eight to ten more years. Hence planting must be
done annually in order for the production line to supply the demand. These
factors are very important in growing the trees perfectly. The soils in Ireland
are perfect for these types of trees. The climate also perfect since Ireland
does not encounter late spring frost similar to Germany and Denmark.
Furthermore, knowing that Denmark is the biggest producer of Christmas trees in
the world, Nordmann Firs can withstand frost comparing it with the Noble
variety.
Growing the Christmas trees requires technique, such as chopping off the bottom branches and that slows the tree down and makes it push out. Also putting a type of hormone on the topmost portion of the tree which slows the growth down and produce short gaps within the quarrels of branches. Fertilizers also play a major role in enhancing the color of the tree to a nice dark green hue.
Choosing the Perfect Tree
When selecting the perfect tree, the Noble Fir falls nicely in the middle and these are trees that grows faster than the Nordmann Fir but not as fast than the Norway Spruce. Hence, it is not as expensive, and it does not require as much pruning. However, there are two things to consider when selecting a Noble Fir, this tree has very sharp needles. These also have a very distinctive smell that one may either love or hate. Hence, these trees can either be displayed inside the house or outside, depending on the owner’s preference. As some may prefer the smell permeating inside the house while some would not tolerate the odor and prefer leaving it outside their residence. Moreover, the branches of the Noble Firs are very rigid and sturdy, it is easier to hang baubles and heavier decors. These tend to withstand until four weeks before Christmas. Plenty of time to marvel at the decoration and spend ample time celebrating the holidays with family and friends alike. A seemly tradition that if not most of the families are looking forward to in this festive holiday.
